After having the privilege of retelling this fairy tale, I wanted you to be able to have a way to see what the original story is all about.
SurLaLune Fairy Tales: The Fairy Tales of Marie-Catherine d’Aulnoy
This link will get you to a good version of the story.
Fun Facts: Did you know that it was published the same year that Cinderella was? Did you know that the author of Cinderella is a man, but the author of The Blue Bird is a woman? Did you know there are MANY MANY similarities in this story & Cinderella? Retellings are much older than we think.
The author, Madame d’Aulnoy, was a Baroness and a Countess and is known for inventing/coining the phrase, fairy tale! Her story is so very befitting of a fairy tale or medieval story. Here’s a short fun written article about her.
