As with most holidays, Easter has roots in Paganism and later became a holiday celebrated by Christians. My family has celebrated with the usual baskets filled with candy, hunting eggs, and buying new clothes. As a Christian family we also celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Medieval times saw Easter as a time of feasting after fasting 40 days. Church attendance was important. But there was so much more. It is also a celebration of the Spring Equinox. If you are curious to read deeper, please check out the links below this article. There is also one on why Easter moves around on our calendar that I found interesting. 😉
I get my information from so many places on the internet and books I own. I am not a fan of reinventing the wheel very often, so I will include some of the locations I get my information from when I write my stories to share with you.
- This one tells why Easter’s date is always different.
- Short but informative. Talks about the Easter eggs.
- My favorite one! She covers several things, and it isn’t a long read. Her blog is one of my new favorites to check out.
I hope you enjoy venturing into a bit of history. I get lost there sometimes and forget to keep writing or anything else I am supposed to be doing.
Blessings & Happy Easter!!
